The foundation
The Music Foundation I Pomeriggi Musicali are an orchestral concert institution in Milan performing with an orchestra of it´s own concerts serias mainly at Teatro dal Verme. The foundation had been established by the Lombardy Region, the Municipality of Milan, the Province of Milan, and by private entities recognized by the State as an institution-orchestral concert and Regione Lombardia as a primary musical production.
The Orchestra
The orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali had been founded after the secondworld war . The orchestra performes the classical repertoire as well as a repertoire of contem-porary music. First concert had been on November 27 1945, together Mozart and Stravinsky, Beethoven and Prokofjev, inaugurated a bold formula that led to success.
The orchestra is active mainly in Milan and cities in the Lombardy, while in autumn it works as an opera orchestra in Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Mantova, Pavia, and the season of Ballet of the Teatro alla Scala. It is invited to symphony seasons in the major Italian cities and won international audiences. Recently met with flattering success in Spain, Portugal, Tunisia, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey and Austria.
The orchestra played with conductors and soloist as Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Rudolf Buchbinder, Pierre Boulez, Michele Campanella, Giuliano Carmignola, Aldo Ceccato, Sergiu Celibidache, Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Carlo Maria Giulini, Vittorio Gui, Natalia Gutman, Angela Hewitt, Leonidas Kavakos, Alexander Lonquich, Alexander Igor Markevitch, Zubin Mehta, Carl Melles, Riccardo Muti, Hermann Scherchen, Thomas Schippers, Christian Thielemann, Salvatore Accardo, Antonio Ballista, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Bruno Canino, Dino Ciani, Severino Gazzelloni, Franco Gulli, Nikita Magaloff, Nathan Milstein, Massimo Quarta, Maurizio Pollini, Corrado Rovaris e Uto Ughi.
