The 10th General Assembly of the European Mozart Ways (EMW), the international network of cities, regions and cultural as well as tourism institutions along the historic travelling routes of Mozart, took place in Brno over the last weekend. 21 representatives from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy and the Czech Republic discussed the setting course for the next two years. The Council of Europe was represented by Ms Penelope Denu, new director of the Institute of Cultural Routes in Luxembourg and Executive Director of the Cultural Route Program by the Council.

Activities 2012/2013/2014

  • The main focus of activities in 2012 is currently the major European project "Family Music" – "A program to improve music education along the European Mozart Ways".
    • From 18 - 21 October 2012, "HEIMSPIEL" / "HOME-PIT(CH)" music competition for amateurs will be held in Augsburg, organized by the German Mozart Society in collaboration with the Musicians' Union of Bavaria and the European Mozart Ways. Non-professional musicians are invited to present themselves to an experienced and enthusiastic jury and to exchange experiences and passions. The competition has just been announced and the enrolment period will run until 27 April 2012. For more information see http://www.heimspiel-mozart.de/.
       
    • By May 2013 an internet platform for music education under the auspices of the Province of Salzburg will be implemented. Music education and the encounter with classical music should be established as a European concern for children and youth. EMW Members will benefit from these resources and will be supported in the pursuit of these objectives as well as in the creation of cross-border youth projects.
       
    • In the same context 10 music education project along the Mozart Ways, each co-financed by EU funds with € 2,500, will be implemented till March 2013. The projects were selected from 17 submissions from 11 Mozart Ways Partners.
       
  • In 2012 the European Mozart Ways are going to submit two new projects to the European Commission, respectively centered on  tourism enhancement and on the cultural sector on the occasion of the 250th  Anniversary of Mozart's Great Western European Journey (2013 - 2016).
     
  • In the coming years, the cooperation of the Mozart Houses in Salzburg, Vienna, Augsburg and St. Gilgen will also be strengthened. The representatives of the Mozart Houses intend to establish a mutual promotion of their institutions, also envisioning an exchange of materials and joint exhibitions.

New Board of Directors
For the term 2012 - 2014 the following representatives have been elected by the General Assembly as new Board Members: Angela Romagnoli (IT), musicology professor at the University of Cremona and artistic director of the prestigious "International Festival of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Rovereto", Renè Pöltl (DE), Mayor of the town of Schwetzingen and Petr Štìdroò (CZ), director of the Reduta Theatre in Brno.

 Maria Majno (IT), representing the Municipality of Milan and Il Sistema Italy, was appointed in her 4th term as President, while Monika Kalista (AT), Salzburg, was confirmed as Treasurer, Thomas Weitzel (DE), Cultural Office of the City of Augsburg, as First Vice President and Eberhard Mittwich (DE), City of Offenbach, as Secretary.
