Choir Concert revived twinning between Reims and Salzburg
Choirs from three European countries met on Saturday, July 9 in the University Auditorium in Salzburg to follow in the footsteps of Mozart and to be inspired by his life. As part of the "European Mozart Ways" - a network of proven cities and sites visited by Mozart - the boys choir "Les Pastoureaux" from Waterloo, Belgium (Director: Philippe Favette), the youth choir of Reims Cathedral, France (Director: Sandrine Lebec ) and the Jugendkantorei at Salzburg Cathedral (Director: Gerrit Stadlbauer) met together. The result was a great choral community concert that delighted the visitors completely.
The reason for this meeting was the festival of folk cultures from 8 - 10 July, which attracted thousands of visitors in the old town of Salzburg and the University Auditorium was filled up to the last place. The ceremony concluded with three works by Wolfgang A. Mozart, which were sung by the choirs together: Ave verum corpus, Benedictus sit Deus, Laudate Dominum.
Following the concert the participating choirs were appointed "Young Ambassadors of the European Mozart Ways". Another feature existed in this festive occasion to celebrate: the first time after 52 years of twinning history Reims - Salzburg a choir from the French twin townwas guest in Salzburg.
