The Mozart Festival in Schwetzingen presents this year Mozart's opera buffa "Le nozze di Figaro". The libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte is based on the scandalous, in Vienna initially banned, piece "La folle journée ou le mariage de Figaro". Thanks to the diplomatic skill of da Ponte the emperor withdrew his reservations about the "sujet" and thus the premiere could take place - yes, even this was ordered by the emperor. The reserved attitude of the Emperor, who attended the rehearsal, was not least weakened by Mozart's music. The premiere of "Figaro's Wedding" on May 1, 1786, Mozart himself conducted, was a great success; eight more performances led the audience to unimaginable enthusiasm storms.

The work on "Figaro" falls into Mozart's most creative period. He feels incessantly rushed by his overarching musical ideas and is also plagued by dissatisfaction, unrest and doubts. Despite personal fate, his thoughts revolve around his music alone; Mozart craves fame and the favor of his clients. He has travel plans and thinks of switching from Vienna to Prague, because he is celebrated there and he was not exposed to Viennese envy. After this little historical excursion, we cordially invite you to experience and celebrate the genius Mozart at an authentic place!
