"It's just a village"

This year, the 300th birthday of the composer Leopold Mozart (1719-1787) is celebrated worldwide. The so-called "Wunderkindreise" led Leopold Mozart with his two children Maria Anna ("Nannerl") and Wolfgang Amadeus in midsummer 1763 also to Schwetzingen.

From this stay Mozart not only travel notes are handed down, but also a very detailed letter. He wrote this on July 19, 1763 his friend and patron, the extremely wealthy Salzburg merchant Johann Lorenz Hagenauer. In it he also reported on the general conditions in the town and in the surrounding Palatinate at the time of the Elector Carl Theodor (1724-1799). This letter as well as the supplementary tradition are at the same time the fixed and starting point of the exhibition.
